Ok so i am about to set up a 65gal tank with a 20gal long sump and the other stuff, but my question is hom many gph should my sump pump (return) be pushing with 5/8in tubing. Im getting the over flow that most of u have been recomending to us (if someone can post it or another good overflow). If u need more info just ask (im very new at this so just tryin to learn). Of course im gonna put L.S and L.R, a proteine skimmer, two 145 gph power heads, 400w M.H lamp, ?4 65w antic? (i think comes with the tank).
Im also getting two filters with the 65gal tank so can i use these two in addition or would they just be in the way? Thanks for all the help and kind word you guys have tow offer!

so i went up to Aquatics Unlimited in Greenfeild, Wi (3550 so 180th st.) and they said the two filters that i have are gonna be perfect for my 65gal and that the overflows that hang on the back can really make a mess my in a power outage. Now dont get me wrong i know how much better sumps are but the filters are a better way to go for me right now! Thanks for the help tho!

If it a properly designed and made HOB overflow there is little chance of that flooding the house if the power goes off You need to have them or the tank drilled the skimmer has to set in the sump and you want to turn the 65 gallons over or through the sump and past the skimmer Minium 5 times per Hr. and no more then 10x's I shoot for 7 on average. a Mag 9.5 is the pump you want.. with head and pipe loss

The sump is the only way to go trust me I have seen so many kick themselves in the A$$ in hind sight Start off right would be my first suggestion . Overflow ? what a box type ? Sure I'll find it and post it for you ..CPR makes them and some others here is just one place you can look around to find other prices but this will give you the idea as to what you need. Also Maybe talk to a few of the site sponsors here maybe they can help you out with a better price ? I'd myself drill the tank and put the internal overflow in the corner .Its not that much to drilling glass holes LOL this site will explain it also look at the home page or near the bottom .

What brand of tank are they ? Is there a sticker saying tempered glass ? most all have tempered bottoms so we drill them on the what will become the rear panel of glass then add a bulk head then ell down to sump and ell up to make a stand pipe that will be about 3 inches below the water grates of the internal overflow and yes its that easy if its not tempered If you know the brand name it easier to tell or find out..
