milo you are not alone with this problem. i have the same exact problem and i cant stand the bubbles. my return hose spits burst of bubbles and they go right into a powerhead and spread. i am making another (ten gallon) sump to replace the one i have and it will have baffles. does your have a baffle bubble trap? i have also tried buying abig piece of filter sponge from petco to stop them before they reach my pump and it did nothing.

I am only a few months ahead of you guys. Bubble traps in my sump helped dramatically. My problem now is getting my skimmer adjusted correctly so that it isn't spewing bubbles. Once that is done, I should be close.

Do you have bubble traps and is your skimmer separated from your return pump correctly?

Describe your setup. Size of display and sump, pumps size and submerged or external, plumbing configurations of both the over flow and return, valves, fittings, baffles, age of system, etc. It makes it much easier to offer informed solutions or ideas that way.
