Just curious. i have seen in some other posts about the spectrum of algae. I have run the lighs about nine months now and have had problem nusiance aglae. The acentic are a 460. The others are 10kk is all it says. They are all 39 watt. Can this spectrum be what might be aiding to the outbreak? The lfs has the same ones so if its just time to replace then I will but curious if anyone can throw me a little imput? Thanks

    A few questions:

Are you using RO/DI water or tap? (Ro/DI or DI water vital)

Are those the original Current stock bulbs? (My PC's dimmed after 3 months and I think aided in HAir Algae. Current bulbs are ok.. replace them with UVL bulbs.)

Algae can get out of control if your bulbs start going, and I heard current bulbs lose their effiency after 4-6 months. I had hair algae break out.. this was in part because of my LFS water I think, and my fuge light was leaking into my tank. Now it's dying out. Algae I heard hates a more blue spectrum. I think its your bulbs or water. Go with 12k bulbs and 420 actinics

I have a ro/di unit and before that I used lfs water. The tank seemed that it never cycled I got the origional algae and it seem like it just never stopped. I have scrubbed and scrubbed and then scrubbed and it keeps coming back! I have searched everything and am not over feeding. The only thing I can thing is that there is a little yellow gunk on a few of the bio balls but I dont have a massive nitrate issue or one that even reads for that matter. So I keep hearing bulbs so I guess id figure it out one thing at a time. the bulbs are about 9 months old yes the ones that I got with the fictures. What are UVL bulbs? are they different then the ones in there? Thanks again. I have been trying to follow that other post floting around jsut dident want to hijack it so I asked over here.

Bio balls are bad.. they are nitrate factories.. get rid of them. They are good for fish only tanks, not reef tanks. You are not reading nitrates, because you algae is efficiently feeding on them. UVL bulbs are a brand, and they put out more par than other t5's according to Tangster. His combination suggestions are 12k's and 420 super actinics. Go on Marine Depot's site. If you order 4 bulbs, they ship them for free.

PS I like how your TV is above your tank. Good idea! That way when my girl watches girly stuff, I can watch my tank without her complaining I spent too much time looking in my tank... hmmm

They say 95 watts? the ones that I have are 36. Seems that it might have to many watts to run with mine?
