I really would like to purchase some sun polyps, but not able to find any locally. Has anyone had any experience in purchasing them online, or know how they ship? And can anyone give me some online sources that have these in stock? Also, in addition to recommended care information Ive already researched, anyone have any tips or info from personal experience in keeping Sun Polyps? Thanks a bunch in advance for any info you can give.

I'd have to say that my suns are one of the cooler hard corals I have. The only thing you must insure you do with these guys is feeding them atleast once a week, preferably 3 times a week is recommended to keep them healthy.

I must add that it get's a bit annoying to have to feed them, especially when you're not in the mood, but once you get to feeding them, it's actuallly pretty fun. You just gotta make sure you place them somewhere where they are easy to feed. Ack, especially if you get a frag full of them!

I've never known how well they ship, if it's overnight, they should be ok and can go a few days without feeding, my guess is that they should do well with shipping. Go for it! :tongue4:

Mannyhernz knows a nice spot where they sell frag fulls!

Thanks for the info! I think I am going to go for it! Found they have them on aquacon.com so think I'm going order my first coral from the Internet...wish me luck! :)

Oh, I noticed that you have a mandarin goby...do you purchase pods for feeding or find you have plenty in your tank? Or does it eat prepared food? I really want to get one, considering going to the route of purchasing pods online....any thoughts? I have a open top tank with the light suspended, so a lot of fish are out of the question as they are prone to jumping out, only have a 20g so cant fit too many fish in there...not sure of any other small fish options, plus who doesn't love the mandarin?? :)

I say go for the mandarin. The only thing I will warn you of is that they eat pods and pods only. You can spray all the meaty foods you want and he will turn the other way.

You can get one who eats prepared foods, just make sure you see it eat on the spot before purchasing it just to ensure that he does eat prepared foods. I have a fluctuating pod population that decline then re-emerge. I think that is because I have soo much rock work and also have porous rock which they can hide in and reproduce. I am also thinking of adding gracilaria to help feed them and dose iron to help keep the algae healthy.

If you do get a mandarin, add more rock to your setup!

Suns will ship overnight fine if you order from aquacon. There's a few sites that I like and order from. Let me know if you want me to send you the sites

Sun polyps are cool and very beautiful though the yellow/orange ones are easier to grow than the black ones. Light really doesn't matter since they are apoymbiotic in nature. You will have to target feed them for them to survive though, which could pose a feeding problem if you don't target feed religiously. As mentioned above make sure you have them in a convenient location so you are able to feed them easily and often.

Sun polyps definitely need to be fed a few times per week. The heads start to emerge after the lights go out. Lightly squirt some shrimp juice on top of the heads to bring them out. Sometimes they need to be coaxed out after being shipped. I recently bought a nice size specimen online. It has about 15 heads and I paid $25.00. I would put the name of the site, but I am not sure of the rules about that on this site. If it is ok to say where you purchased something, let me know. Information is strength!!!
