Perdhil here has one above his 55. If I remember right he is pretty happy with it. You might try sending him a message.

I think it is totally awesome. I have zero complaints and plenty of praise ;)

Like you said, the stock bulbs aren't the best. But they're fine. I too plan on upgrading the bulbs after the first ones get their nine months use. No sense in wasting the bulbs and spending more money if you don't have to.

I'm growing all kinds of corals in my tank. Here's my thread. Lots of pics there too. Jump to the end to see my latest pics...

I almost got one (the 24" version), but couldn't justify the extra $100 just to have an integrated timer and less electrical cords. So, I just ordered a new Nova Extreme.

At MarineandReef there is only a $40 difference between the two.

I have the 24" Sundial and I love them.

We have 36" over our 46 bowfront and love them. Check out our thread as well if you're interested. We've had the stock bulbs for 5 months now, and they're growing acros, birdsnest, gsp, hammer coral, tons of mushrooms, tons of zoas, etc. We're very happy with our lights, they'll just cause a little slower coral growth than say a 6 bulb T5, and aren't meant for deeper tanks. The deeper tanks need MH to make it to the bottom, but in shallower tanks T5's and MH are fairly equal. Our LFS owner said T5's are fine until about 20" deep, then you halides win. But our tank is only 20" deep anyways, and we have no corals on the bottom.

The bottom line is, it's a very good fixture for the money if you don't the slower coral growth (we sure don't mind, our GSP and xenia still grow like they're on steroids)
