Hello, 3reef. I have spent the last couple of months lurking in the forums, learning. This site is a treasure-trove of information, and it has immensely helped me. I love clams and mandarins (I realize the care level required for both of them). I am looking to indulge my saltwater addiction, but don't know where to find a tank. Obviously not petco...
I also looked into glasscages, but I have read horrific stories of tanks breaking, and flooding houses. So, I just want to say hi; but I would also like advice on a tank choice.

EDIT: I am looking for a tank larger than 50 gallons, should i consider craigslist?

craigslist is a good way to go to save some money but im always worried copper was used in a tank. which could ruin the chances of being used as a reef tank. i have a 55 gallon from pet smart and have no troubles with it. if your worried about a petco tank leaking just fill it up outside and let it sit for a week and put saran wrap over the top to avoid evaporation.but i would worry to much

    Welcome to 3reef

Petco sells major brands so purchasing one there won't present any problems. Try to support your nearest LFS.

For those of you joining us that are new to the hobby - the best piece of advice you'll get around here as a saltwater newbie is 3Reef's slogan
    "Go slow, let it grow."
And for those experianced hobbyists joining us - it's still good advice :p
good luck and post pics soon :)

I have nothing against petco, but the largest tank my petco has is a thirty-something bow front. My nearest lfs is 45 minutes, so my trips there will not be frequent.
Pjracer, how are your glasscages holding up? I hear it is hit and miss as far as customer service as well.

Pet smart sells some good sizes. Where are you located. There are a few good fish tank makers out there and you LFS can usualy get you a good price on bigger tanks.

Welcome! lol. I got my 120g From petco, Special ordered it, came out to about 600$ when the tank and stand where all done. When i get a larger tank will go the same route if i want a "new" tank instead of searching around for one.

Ok, sounds good. I will ask my petco about their special order policies. I just want a tank around 70 gallons for a FOWLR and then later a reef. I am thinking about a foxface rabbitfish, blue spotted jawfish, tomato/b&w clown(s), and couple of clams later on.
