Can someone verify if regular super glue is safe to use for frag placement? I've been told a few times from people in person that it is toxic and for aquariums I need to use the gel super glue or else it may not stick and I could have problems!!

Any form of cyanoacrylite is ok to use. Gel form is just a lot easier to work with.

The reason super glue gel is that it uses cyanoacrylate as its main bonding agent. It is not toxic. That does mean eat it of course, but it wont hurt anything used in moderation. That is the glue bonding agent you want to look for.

khowst: that is the type i have, its in a small bottle instead of a metal tube. just want to be cautious -- i understand gel is more suitable to work with but I don't have money for gel at the moment but I do have a new bottle of regular superglue by the Helping Hands company. So far what I've researched says its okay, but people I speak to say it's not.

Make sure it is cyanoacrylate and it will be fine. Apply it to rocks and coral outside of the tank for it to be effective. When super glue hits water is skins over and the skin needs to be broken to get the glue to work. You can not get a thick enough layer with non gel glue to glue under water.

I use medium body superglue. You find it at any hobby shop in much larger sizes in ounces and not grams and its pretty inexpensive. It keeps for years in the refrigerator.

I use the gel superglue. They actually sell 3 pack of small tubes for a dollar at Dollar Tree. Or at least the one by me does.

Wow you all have no idea how annoying it was lifting my LR out of the water and gluing my frags in place. I understand what you mean by dipping in and out now. Lets the glue cure. But I wouldn't imagine how to do it if I had a much larger system and I wanted to glue a frag to the bottom rock. (I guess the gel would be different)?????????

just have some rock rubble in your sump, and when it's time to glue a frag, take some rubble out, glue the frag to it, then use the super glue/epoxy/super glue sandwich, to glue it to your main rocks. At least for SPS, it's nicer to have something that can insulate the frag from the heat generated from the epoxy curing cycle...and a piece of rubble is more natural than a frag plug.

Just make sure there are no additives in the glue. Should be 100% Cyanoacrylate.
