Hi OP, i have the same skimmer just brand new today. I am having a hard time getting it primed. I hold my thumb over the silencer blocking the air then i plug it in and all i hear is it chug but the water never even reaches the clear tube running horizontally across the skimmer. Ive tried different amounts of water. Tried tightening the venturi. Any tips?

How long have you tried holding your finger over the silencer? It takes a few seconds for the water to slowly climb up and through the pipe. If you are still not able to get the skimmer to prime check for any loose connection from the acrylic pipe to the pump and also check from the silencer to the pump. This skimmer is unaffected by water level so that shouldn't be a factor. Also check for cracks in the piping. Also one last important thin is that there needs to be water in the rear chamber. Enough to submerge the pump before attempting to prime. If that doesn't worm I would contact Reef Octopus as you may have s defective pump. Let me know if that works.
