So a twenty gallon upgrade in tank capacity is not EXACTLY super size, but I am upgrading from a 60 to an 80 gal tank! WoooT!!!

The stand that I have been using for my 60 is a handmade "custom" job, that is, to be frank...very scary! So while at an auction on Sunday, I found a "real" stand in good condition. I paid $55 dollars for it. And guess what?! It came with an 80 gal. tank. The tank has now passed the leak test. I will need to purchase a new set of CF lights as it is 48" long and the 60 gal is only 36".

My question now, is... How does one go about moving everything? My tank, while it is still not beautiful, seems to be fairly stable now. Do I need to move the sand and rock, and let it cycle for 24 hrs. or something? I do have a tank that I can put the livestock in during the swap.

Any input would be appreciated, as I would like to make the transition with as little stress as possible.

This is how I did it (from 29 to 65): Bought new sand (u dont wanna put your old sand in the new tank). Filled it up with water, ran it for a couple of days until it cleared and then started transfering everything.. my old tank was so overcrowded with LR that I had plenty to start the new one. After a couple of weeks I started adding more LR one piece at a time. Nothing was lost during or after the transfer.

    LOL, Define reef ready!

My budget has been been very slim and I have been working at this for nearly a year now. The tank has a nifty "Do Not Drill" sticker on it. I have no sump yet... I do have a 30 gal, that I would like to put to that use. I have been using a Rena XP2, and 2 Koralias (sp) and a HOB skimmer. My livestock is in good condition, but at this point, that is about all i can say for my poor tank. We had a bout with hair algae, and that has abated, but I still am struggling with cyno and macro algae gone sexual!

All that to say... No, I don't think the 80 is RR!
