It was in fresh? I don't know if it make differences, but why not start your cycle now?

Skimmers run completely different in freshwater and the Skimmer will micro bubble worst until it is broken in.

As far as surging. There is a mod floating around in that you replace the flexible output tube with 1" PVC tubing you run that in to a PVC Tee and you set one side pointing straight up and the other straight down. The vent hole on the standard flex tube is too small and intermittently starts and stops a siphon. The mod is like $3 in PVC and it makes the skimmer far more stable.

That is awesome! I never even thought about trying to modify it. I had wondered if cutting some holes in the top of the flexible tubing would allow for better air intake, but wasn't sure whether or not I should mess with it.

I'm not running the skimmer at the moment, so now would be a perfect time to mess with it!

Thanks Covey, how bout a little karma! ;D

When I first set up my CSS125 it ran fine. I moved it around to put it on a different part of the sump and trimmed the output house and BAM! The skimmer was all eradtic and surgy. Some other Coralife skimmer users bought up the Tee mod and it works good.

Now do you run another piece of PVC off the bottom of the tee down into the water and if so, how deep can it go into the water?

The Tee sould be a 1" slip connection so you can either just cram the 1" PVC into the Tee or solvent weld the PVC. With the Tee installed you can run the plumbing anyway you want as long as it stay below the level of the Tee. It one of the nice side benefits to the mod in that you can plumb the skimmer to suit your sump. You could plumb the output of the skimmer to the back left corner of your sump to give move time for the micro bubble to rise before they get to the baffles too.

So as long as the mod plumbing isn't too long there won't be too much backpressure? at least nothing that would affect the skimmers operation too much.

Let's say I wanted to run it about 6" horizontally, should i maybe drill a couple holes in the top of the horizontal pvc pipe for added air relief?

Any chance you could draw it and post a pic. I don't think the hole would be necessary.

    Stoll,
I did the mods that Covey suggested to my 125 over the weekend and the difference is night and day. I just piped the output back into the diffuser not under water line as you are suggesting.
