I had been running a SealifeSystems SeaStorm 75 skimmer on my 55 gallon tank and decided to upgrade. I bought the Coralife SuperSkimmer 65. Now, it is only rated for 65 gallons and the SealifeSystems is rated for 75 but the Coralife is like twice the size. It is much bigger so I am hoping to get a little better performance. The sealife systems didn't seem to work too well. The new skimmer has only been running for a couple of hours so I will make another post on this in a couple of days after the skimmer breaks in telling you my thoughts. I will take some pictures of the two side by side to give you some idea of the size difference.

I hate the break-in period! All night last night I was disappointed at the new skimmer but I have to keep in mind that it is breaking in!

it could take a week or so.. be patient..

maybe dose some food and pyhtoplankton.. might get it to foam quicker..

I have used the Sealife skimmer and still have it and it worked great. I dont trust Coralife products and have heard/read many bad reviews about them.

Well I have both but the best way to truly learn for myself I guess is to try it. I hear so many conflicting stories from so many people I don't know what to trust, so I just have to find out for myself. Yes I spend more but knowledge is priceless right? So far i seem to like the design of the Sea Storm 75 better (causing the air/water mix to vortex inside the skimmer body instead of just releasing tons of micro-bubbles upward like the SuperSkimmer. The super skimmer is starting to make a little bit of foam, last night (a little over 24 hours out of the box) it only "frothed over" once. But I am hoping when I get home from work today (48 hours out of the box) it will be producing a little more. I will take some pictures tonight.

Wow, dude relax! I have the Coralife super skimmer and it performs nicely. It did take I think 48 hours to get broke in and start to produce a steady froth. It take a little adjusting for a few days after the break in period to get it to produce a dry skim but once you learn where to keep the "bubble head" (the inch on top of the micr bubbles) you will like it. If you have a problem in a couple of days, come back on and let us know.
Oh, by the way, is it in a sump or hanging?

It his hanging off of my sump. The pump is only 1-2 inches under the water level in the sump but according to the manual, that is perfect as long as it doesn't go deeper than 3". It seems to be breaking in nicely. I just have to have patience!

I didn't mean to offend anyone, I think we can all agree that there are always people with different opinions and myself being fairly green in the reefkeeping world, I listen to some opinions and later find out it might not have been the best idea. But I think we have all learned a few things that way. I wasn't trying to sound nasty or anything. I have nothing bad to say about anyone on here because after all, you all are helping me.
