So I only have a few zoas and a mushroom in my tank but with the soon to be new additions to my tank I was looking to get phytoplankton to feed my corals and a supplement or two. I get 2 free ones from reefs2go so I was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction on what to get

The supplements I'm lost on I don't even know where to begin

On the phytoplankton do I need small or medium??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Your corals won't eat phyto. The phyto supports a larger population of pods that your corals will then eat.

I wouldn't add a dead phyto product, I would go with a live one.

Are you running a skimmer? My experience has been that....none are really needed and could actually do more harm then good. Excess nutrients being the #1 problem. Which means you could be opening up your tank to algae/nitrate issues.
However if it's free, you may want to consider selling them or asking for a trade :)

I wouldn't dose anything for those corals, to be honest.

    Totally agree-I wouldn't use/get any of them.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of that. So corals feed on pods suspended in the water? Does phyto also support the pod population that and goby and they like would feed on?

Curious as to why you'd say that given ~80% of oceanic phytplankton has shown to be "non-viable"... meaning they won't divide. Corals and numerous other filter feeders have shown not to be capable of determining if a phyto cell is viable or now. FWIW viability is one way phycologists use to determine if a cell is "alive" or not.

Live will continue to use up crucial energy/nutrient reserves as they age, even in "hibernation" due to refrigeration.

Live also does nothing for the tank, won't lower nutrients, etc. Most species used are non motile so they will behave the same as non live.

Obviously not all non viable phytoplankton products are created equal though :)

Feed zooplankton to your zoas.... copepods, krill, mysis, mysids, rotifers, oyster chunks, etc.

mushrooms don't need it, and many won't eat it. Rhodactis and a few others will, but discosomas wont.
