If you are going with SPS you will want alkalinity and magnesium. No real need for iodine since there is plenty in your salt and you do regular water changes.

It is highly advisable to not dose anything you do not test for. So add test kits for Ca, Mg and alk.

I second this. You aren't going to need ca and alk for a while but I would go ahead and get the test kits. If you are using a quality salt, you should be ok until you start adding lps and sps corals.

Other than the basic calcium, magnesium and alkalinity, I've not dosed anything in my 19 yrs of reefing.
As for Iodine and it's forms, Randy Holmes-Farley of the Reef Chemistry Forum says that unless you have a specific type of gorgonian, regular water changes are all that is needed.
Also, test kits for the iodine forms are NOT reliable and can lead to overdosing which can be deadly.

+1,test kits should be first priority, unless you are heavily stocked with stony corals water changes will take care of most of what you need.In a mixed reef I've only had to dose Mg a couple of times and Alk a little between water changes.

So what I got out of this is to get Calcium, Magnesium, Alkalinity test kits and supplements. Also to get some sort of food.
