So I finally got my tank all plumbed yesterday with Loc-line as the returns. I am hoping to only use these Loc-line returns as flow without havig to add any secondary Koriala's. With the skimmer and the overflow, it seems as though water oxygenation won't be any issue. So, are there other reasons for surface agitation, or will I be fine without?

I can't really think of any other reason than gas exchange, and to prevent a film from developing on the surface. If you have enough oxygenation with skimmer and the overflow, I don't think you would have to concentrate on agitation the surface. That being said, you don't want it sitting stagnant though. But I'm sure you know that ;D

Well the overflow I have is the super-nano w/ teeth from glass-holes, so it will skim the surface constantly, which I'm betting will eliminate the slime factor. The tank is a 29g with 10g sump, and I'm using a MJ 1200 for the flow, so there is very little chance of stagnant water.

    Any other thoughts?

Just make sure theres no flim on the top of the water. If there inst then your fine, if there is then i would add another power head pointed to the surface.

Another very big benefit is temperature control. The more water you expose to air the more evaporation and the cooling that provides. I say the more the better.

Plus if you're using halides (not sure if you are or not), some surface agitation will give you that shimmer effect. LOVE IT!

+1 surface agitation, also, unless you have a really big return pump you probably could use more circulation in the tank, depending on what you're keeping.
