Is there any way to get rid of this sludge and is it anything to be really getting me all worked up? My tank (30 hex) is looking pristine, even with the seaclone, but my old tank had an overflow so I never experienced this, and the 37 also is all HOB but doesn't get this as bad. I don't have 'much' circulation but it is adequate, should I point another powerhead at the surface to agitate the water more? But that doesn't seem like its fixing it, just making it not noticable.

I used one for a while ... they work well with a little dialing in. Just keep up on the evap.

Try some surface agitation with a powerhead or something. Like Matt said, watch your evap with that skimmer. It is a pain to dial in and can cause a pump to run basically dry if the water level changes to much.
