Over the years, I have heard and read so many different things regarding how often to change your water and how much to change that I would be interested in doing a survey of what aquarium owners actually do.

    If you could post:

    The size of your tank
Whether it is fish only, reef, other
How often you change your water
What percentage of the water you change

I think this would be very helpful to others.

P.S. I am also interested in how many buy their saltwater or make it at home. I used to make mine, but the time involved made me reconsider.

46 gal bow front reef tank, canister filter, protein skimmer, I do a 10-15% every week and right before a change i give a healthy top off of RO water to make sure the salinity doesn't change to much, i also let the new water sit for a day to get the same temp as my room:p

For the 75g tank I took down, the operating water volume was about 100g....

Mixed fish/reef, monthly, 10 gallons, RO/DI on site and ReefCrystal mix...

The plan for the 120g tank, operating water volume estimated to be 200g

Mixed fish/reef, monthly, 20 gallons, RO/DI on site and ReefCrystal mix...
