So I was wondering if it was okay to use the food grade "sushi nori" for our tangs? A fellow reefer informed me that you could get a whole lot more nori in the food grade version than you get with the fish food version of the nori for the same price.
Anyone here ever used food grade nori?

    Hey Siddique,

Nori from grocery store, $1.99 or Nori from lfs, $5.99. You will be fine with the nori from the store. What I really don't understand is why anyone would pay triple or more for the same algae, and in a smaller package. I am pretty sure that the standards for food for human consumption are higher than those for fish. Whoever came up with the idea is a genius and probably rich too.

    Good luck,

    Jim

Wow. Great to know cuz I go through SFB brand nori sheets every week. Is there a particular preferred brand from the grocery or would any one suffice?

I think any brand would be fine, but just in case check the ingredients list to make sure it is only algae with no additives. I don't think any company adds anything to nori sheets, but better safe than sorry.

The unroasted Nori sheets have a bit more nutrition than the more commonly found roasted variety used for sushi. You can usually find both types available at Asian grocery stores.
