    hey all,
Today i got a blue tang, i wish i had of put him in a Q tank but i did not have 1 setup at the time......the blue tang is in a 8x2x2 with a pair of gobies, pair of clown fish, wrasse, lipstick tang, 3 snails, 3 starfish..... the blue tang was in with 3 other blue tangs in a pretty small tank and they had been fighting and had scratches on them, i cannot see them now! :) i knew they had not been in the shop very long as they were only just imported, do you think this blue tang has ich? at the shop i did not notice the front of there body/nose has little dots on it....here u can see in my pics:

im not %100 sure if there is anything wrong with this fish but i want to make sure.

atm i only have garlic guard, should i use this to help the ich? also what else can i do?

    here are a few pics:

also should i dose there food with garlic guard?

Dosing the food in Garlic Guard won't hurt. I'm not sure on the eye, but the black spots could be black ich, only guessing however. But if the fish is eating well and isn't being harassed it should pull through. :)

I'm also in Vic, which store did you pick them up from out of curiosity ?
Always looking for a new store to ponder in :p

    hey mate, ok cheers
so the spots u see are not normal?

i live in ballarat and we only have 1 marine store(pails 4 scales) dont even bother going there (no stock, dont know anything) lol.......

i shop at Reef and River in Geelong,
so far i have brought all my fish from there and i am very happy with them. They get alot of stock from cairns aquarium....and i think they import aswell, they have unreal prices, i payed $95 for a 14cm blue tang! the one u see in the pic.

Well as the spots are localized - only the head it makes me think that they could be markings. However if they have just 'appeared' then i don't know. :(

Personally looking at the eye I'd be more worried about that. Are both eyes the same ?

Ballarat to Geelong thats a fair hike... However at that price it'd be worth it. A certain store had a battered purple tang going for about $280.

    gday mate
    how are ya?

its most likely ich, the blue hippo tangs have a tendency to get ich, you can either wait it out and eventually she (i love calling them shes, dory) will get immune, stress also has a hugh factor.

you can also do it this way, like i did but its harder and expensive, but if you have the patience its worth it, get a quaratine tank, only have pipes and a heater in the tank, get all your fish out, treat them all with copper for 4 to 6 weeks keeping the copper dosed to get rid of the ich once and for all in your display tank.

just remember if its spots around the face usually dark, its natural changes from a juvi to a adult.
myn went through the same thing and i was worried about it, she is the one i loved the most in my tank, sadly she got too aggressive and too big for my tank and eventually had to give her away (i surely do miss her)

    enjoy,

ps, have a charlton draft, tooeys new and vb for me. i love and miss those beers
instead now im stuck here in yankee land where they love their weak and lite nasty beers
