Light is light yes, but what happens to that light after time and usage wears on it is the real question. That's why we switch out bulbs. I know LEDs are not bulbs per say, but it's an electronic component, and all electronics have a life span.

IMO a lot of people hate leds because they buy terrible fixtures like the Sol, now that there are very good fixtures on the market with a better spectrum and brighter, more efficient leds more people will switch over to them or at least consider them.

The sol isn't a horrible fixture, not the best or most incredible one out there but I wouldn't call it horrible and you can grow and color up acros under a sol as well.... my LFS has 5 sols over their 5'x30"x16" acro tank and has pretty much since the sol came out.

Sol was a really nice fixture. There is science that isn't fully understood... Adding a few red bulbs is not the whole story.

I think I should throw this out there. the Sol was first introduced in 2007. So it getting pretty old at this point. Is it a surprise that new tech is surpassing it? I'm running two sols with an additional 6 UV, 3 deep red, and 3 cyan now.

My buddy also has an Sol blue, no mods and grows coral like crazy, he's always bringing me frags of sps because he's just growing them too fast for his 29 gallon.
