I have just recently switched my 25g over to my 40g breeder with 20g sump, I have read mixed reviews on oversizing your skimmer too much. My bio load is pretty small right now, 2 clowns and a chromis, and clean up crew. Only softies for corals right now but maybe some SPS within the next year maybe??

    What do you think?

It should work really well. Is this a new skimmer that you're planning on buying or one you are reusing?

I'm about to buy one, just read some people saying oversized skimmers are poor at collecting skimate. My bio load will be increasing a bit now with a couple of fish additions soon, but want a skimmer first.

had a crappy prizm on my old 25g.

In that case, I would get the 120 cone. It will be a better match, save you some money and save space in the sump.

    +1 ^^

The bigger the better, Skimmers take out all the crud in the water, so the more the merrier!

If you aren't planning on an upgrade in the future then I would go with the 120. I have the 160 and it works great. I did have some problem with the pump freezing when new. But when I took it apart I found a piece of plastic stuck on the magnet. I would recommend a SWC if you are buying from a rep dealer.

i have the 120 cone it works great. it is temperamental though with feedings. it will over flow if i don't shut it down for an hour after feeding. i feed frozen foods, not sure how it would be with flakes or pellets

I have also heard that you can actually get too Big of a skimmer, given your total water volume, and bioload. I would personally go with the 120 on your system.
