I am looking to upgrade my protein skimmer. I currently have a Reef Octopus OCT-NWB-200. The main reason that I want to upgrade is because of the noise, I have read a lot to try and find the quietest skimmer possible and it sounds like a SWC is quiet and not to crazy expensive. I have talked with people about just replacing the pump with a bubble blaster but they have all said that the bubble blaster is even louder then the one I have. I am not dead set on a SWC so if you got a better one let me know.

The main reason I am asking about this skimmer is because I am pretty sure that the 230 will do the job I am asking of it but was wondering what people thought about it compared to the 300. I like how it has a small foot print but am upgrading my sump to a 75 gallon soon so if I have to I can fit the 300 but am unsure if it really will be worth it.

My current set up is a 150 gallon display with a 55 gallon sump and 75 gallon refugium witch is gone to be taken out soon and turning into my new sump so basically I will have around 200ish gallons for this skimmer.

    Thanks in advance!

I have a 160 cone, and it's the quietest skimmer I have never heard. Very small foot print and skims like a beast....I have read multiple threads of folks that have been in the hobby way longer than me, and have used every brand out there, and so many of them say, once they got a SWC, they stopped getting anything else.

I'm not even sure SWC is in business anymore. If you read the thread I posted above you would see that the owner is being prosecuted for all of kinds of stuff. I'm sure he will be in jail for a long time, well hopefully anyways. It sounds like he was just using other company's designs anyways.

This article explains the smuggling issues.

I don't know then, but all the pics I just pulled up on google look really close to being the same skimmer. There were also several people in that thread that said the same thing as well.

Ok, well the main reason I picked the SWC was because of the pump so if there is a better or dif option then let me know!
