I've been struggling with my SWC 300 Cone Skimmer for 2 weeks now.

It works normally doing it's job for a few hours then just starts overflowing big time.

I took it all apart and soaked it in Vinegar it's super clean and running well. cleaned all parts on it.

I have no idea why it overflows like this. It just dumps all the crap from the cup back into the sump.

    Could it be tank nutrients?

What are you dosing with or cleaning the water with? Have you adjusted the valve all the way down? If you have the valve adjusted all the way down, then there has to be something in the water making it more buoyant than normal salt water with 1.021-1.026 SG has. When I first started I was making the classic mistake of tap water with chlorine cleanser and conditioner. This of course made my skimmer go CRAZY and overflow until ALL of the conditioner was gone. It was a huge waste of water and I quickly remedied this by using RODI water. This is just my example, but it may give you something to consider. GL

come to think of it a couple of weeks ago I did a low dose of Chemi Clean. I did a waterchange of 20% about 24 hours later.

Should have I of waited a full 48 hours before the waterchange? This was literally 2 weeks ago. could the lower than suggested dose of chemiclean still be in the water?

Will a 20% water change 40 gallons tomorrow do it?

The directions say not to have the skimmer on for simply 24 hours, but it doesn't say if you will have to monitor the filtration after that, in which I'm almost sure you will, hence the 20% water change recommended by the manufacturer. 2 weeks? well, that's hard to say......has the skimmer been going crazy ever since you added the chemiclean? or has this suddenly happened now 2 weeks 'after' you did the treatment?

I'll bump this to help you out, I don't use products so if someone can chime in with their experience it may be of use.
