I have read a little about this over the last few years but never experienced it first hand.

I have a male squareback anthia, he has always been a strange swimmer. Been in the tank about 2-3 months now. lately hes been swimming on a downward angle, and today hes swimming almost completely verticle head down.

my female swims at a downward angle, but not as bad as the male.

Today it looks like hes struggling to stay down

I've never seen it first hand but have a reference book with illustrations showing the problem. What you're describing sounds like what I've read about. I'll take a look tonight after work at the material to see if there is any additional info I can post for you. Hopefully someone else has more answers for you. Good luck.

I had a purple firefish that had the swimbladder issue and had trouble staying down. I'm following the thread to see what others say about it. I have no answers.

I've experienced a Emperor Angelfish with this problem. All of what I read at the time, stated that there are no suitable cures.

So looked in the reference book and found the illustration is for floating bloat. The fish will swim in a downward angle but is unable to descend in the water column. The author claims it is from offering the fish floating pellets and to discontinue the food and the symptoms should clear. How accurate the info is I can't say but I suppose anything within reason is worth a try. Sorry I couldnt be more helpful and best of luck.

He actually seems to have stopped swimming that way tonight.

but was really strange all day, wedging himself places. Maybe he just swallowed an air bubble.

When I had the firefish, it would do this for a day and then go back to normal. Then he'd do it again for a while - sometimes a few days, then go back to normal.
Also, I never fed pellets. Only cyclopes and mysis.
Let us know if our fish starts to have the issue again.

That's actually not good. He is still struggling, but now he's getting tired and and is wedging himself places so he won't float upwards.

Anthias often have decompression issues which affect the swim bladder. But other things can do it as well such as injury, bacterial infection or a parasite.

It seems to have completely stopped today, should I be treating for parasites?or bacterial infection

Does swim bladder issues come and go like this?

    Today he's swimming 100 % normal
