Hi all! I've had power compacts for 4 years now, and one of the ballasts went out on it (for the 3rd time), so I decided it was time to upgrade. My PC's have been running just my actinics (only 2 bulbs) for the past week while I'm waiting for my new T5's to come in. They should be here today.
I am wondering if anyone has suggestions to how I should acclimate the tank to the new lights, as I assume both from a PC to T5 as well as an only half PC to T5 is going to be quite a change in the amount of light and I don't want to shock anything that much. Should I start by just running the T5's on the blues for a few days, and then add in the daylight after that, or is there a better way?
I've got the Aquatinics T5 and the standard bulbs that come with that (I believe a pair of 10,000K and 420 nm Actinics).
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Can you raise the fixture up higher from the tank?

Cut the light period in half or if you can raise the fixture above the tank get it about 12" above. Then either add an hour to the light period every week or lower the fixture 1" every week.

Not sure how I can raise it - I have no way to hang it, so it will be on the brackets that raise it like 6" (maybe 8") max.
I can try the shortened time, just thought even the amount they have might be too much for everything.

That should be OK if you start at 4 hours a day.
