    Hey Everyone,
I have a dilema, I have a water change left of salt, right now I use Oceanic and I love it. The problem is after that is gone it might be a min. before i can replenish the salt. i have half a bucket of instant ocean and i was curious if it would be detremental to my system if i did one water change with the Instant ocean. Its not what i want to do but this has been a bad month for me.
any input would be greatly appreciated.....

Both are good quality salts. There shouldn't be an issue IMO. Others may chime in.

I dont see a problem with using it. I would. You could also mix the 2 together to make your WC water. JMPO.

I would not worry about it at all. Go for it.

Thanks everyone, you just work so hard to get everything the way you like it and then the one bad month you have is the month that you need something and i just didnt want to do anything that would make my system unhappy.

I would just check the levels of cal/mag/alk before you add it, and buffer if necessary. Oceanic has high mag and lowish alk, definitely outside the norm, so this is a concern of mine in this case.

+1 and K+. Surprised nobody else mentioned this. It's also very high in Ca. Your change water should be close to the chemistry of your tank water.

I do not know where you heard it will be higher in calcium, the Instant Ocean will be lower in both Alk and calcium becasue it is mainly used for Fish only tanks. But it really should not be an issue as you can adjust it with additives before you use it.

I buy what salt is on sale, be it Reef crystals, oceanic, seachem or whatever. All I do is check the fresh salt water and make sure it is as close as possible to the tank water before using it.

Salt is like cat food. Not good to buy what is on sale. Pick a salt and stick to it. A reef is ALL about consistency and switching mixes is asking for issues. Doesn't change in the Ocean.

+1 on that.. Times are tough, but maybe you can postpone a water change for a week. Im sure it wont hurt.
