Was time to change out the MH bulbs on the SPS tank, and decided to try the 20k bulbs we won at MACNA last year. We got 2 of the 20k Ushio bulbs and havent used them yet.

We had been running the Ushio 14k bulbs and I really liked the results. We had some good growth rates and good coloring with the 14k. Yesterday we bought a bunch of colorful chalices and I thought it would be worthwhile to make the switch and see how the coloration goes. I know it will slow the growth down quite a bit, but I really want to see color difference.

Inwall is an old school reefer, likes the harsher white/yellow MH lights and I like the cooler, blue look. I am not sure what his opinion on the color is going to be when he gets home tonight, but I like it. It definately is pulling the colors out on the chalices we got yesterday.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    I am running one now.

First bulb was a Phoenix too blue I thought, next was a Radium a little pink. The Ushio is too white for me.

If I had to choose one over all of them is would be the Radium first, with Phoenix second.

With that said if I got MH for free it would those first for sure. Kind of nice to compare the differences.

It will be interesting what Curt thinks, if he likes the old school white it's my bet he will like the Ushio.

my guess is that we were past due changing out bulbs, because to me these bulbs are very BLUE! The 14k must have shifted color to more white side But definately, for the price I think he will be happy with the color as I went a little crazy yesterday and bought him all those chalice for his birthday (ummm......it was a good excuse to say it was for his birthday but in reality chalices are my favorite coral)

curt was fine with the blue color. He said he expected worse.
I did snap some pictures of the corals yesterday to keep track of coloring of things

The pink/green/blue challice is one of the new purchases. My favorite of all them so far. The front frag is just a small frag of the potato chip coral that I accidently fragged cleaning tank

Here is another chalice i bought Saturday

    The third challice.

I bought one more but didnt snap a picture. Was just a plain purple wth pink spots

here is the center rock of the tank. Bubblegum challice and various other corals

here is just the bubblegum challice. This is one of the fastest growing challice I have every had. We bought it at the Nashville frag swap with just 2 eyes and it has already encrusted the frag plug
