Aye, I plan on taking out 1/2 of my cc when I add the sand and using the cc as the substrate for my fuge.

I don't need Live Sand either I'm sure, I don't want to cycle again. Anybody know some cheap nice looking bio-neutral sand to add?

FYI - the process has begun. I removed half of my CC and put in 40 pounds of sand. I put the removed CC in a styro box with tank water to save for use as substrate in my fuge DSB. A little cloudy and not 'scaped yet, so pictures tomorrow.

    4-5 inch seand bed?

I am starting my reef tank in abour 2 months, but I'm getting ready and I have a ton of CC, but I was thinking from what I've read the sugar sized argonite sand would be better. From what I've read I think a 2-3 inch bed is better than 405 inch bed because if it's too deep stuff with get stuck down there and cause issuses...

I am not planning on using a Plenum.... Do you pros out there think sugar sized argonite would be best for a new tank? Like I said I have nothing living in the tank yet... Was thinking about seeding tank with Garf grunge...

    any advice would be welcome.

Also I wasn't planning on using a SUMP, but maybe I should set that up before I get everything going... Does a SUMP help a lot?

    TYIA!

    thanks!

Thanks, that's I am thinking about a 20 gallon sump for my 90 gallon tank, home made... maybe I'll use the CC in the sump??? I was thinking about buying a 20 gallon aquarium on craig's list or something to use as a SUMP...

Any good links for do-it-yourself sumps?

    TYIA all!

Here is my brainstorm thread for my sump/fuge.

And now I'm threading the actual project here...

Hope this helps some. I'm no pro mind you, but I've gotten some good input along the way from this website. Thanks to all.

Hey Marty, just now checked up on this thread. So how did you remove the CC from your tank? I'm still waiting on my bags to get in. You said it was cloudy, how long did it take for it to settle down?

Also, ToboAqua I too am only doing 2-3". I've read DSB is good for 2-3yrs, but then it's not so good.

I put a strainer on the bottom after I move my LR and gentle scooped the CC into the strainer. When it was full I dumped it into a styro container. I put in some info into the this thread here.... Hope that helps ya.

It was cloudy for a couple hours. The next day it was crystal clear.
