Your girlfriend doesnt want you spending more money so your switching to t5, lol bulb costs will be quite a bit every year.
But im with you. I switch out my leds back for my halides, and t5's. I prefer the coloration and growth from them. I found leds lacked the full spectrum.

enhancing red colors with leds isnt done by adding a red led and voila. remember its about how the coral reflects the color on it not what color is being lit over it. If you want more reds to come out you should add warmer white leds, like neutral or a few warm white to really bring in reds and such. Red light will just make it look red to you not necessarily make the corals colors enhance as to be its real colors.

Welcome back to the sane side. I was starting to worry that I was losing everyone to the craze. :)

I switched from led back to t5 also, no regrets.
i run a 6 bulb fixture with 3 ati blue+, aquablue special, kz fiji purple, and super actinic and it gives me a nice 15k look.
Congrats on the switch. its always fun to mess with different t5 bulbs to see what you like.

yep! cant wait to get that fixture in, i want to see how the led bulbs looks. also is it crazy if we purchase a whole lot of tubes and save it just in case t5 got discontinued since "led" is the new trend?

haha most people are going the other way around. i think as far as coloring no lighting system beats led's or halides and halides are pretty much out of the equation now with high powered led's

i am with you. I will never make the switch to LEDs, at least not right now. I will stick to the old MH and T5 combo any day. I have heard way too many people switch back to MH after spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars for LEDs and then finding out they are not enough light to get good coral growth.

I guess I am old. There are too many variables with LEDs that are unanswered imo. However I will admit I did add some UV violet LED to my SPS tank and OMG with the MH there is such an improvement in color and they are growing like weeds.

i used to be like that, then i got a cheap led fixture, and i have to say even a cheap chinese led fixture will outdo an average halide system. imagine getting a top of the line led system. sure its expensive but halides cannot even compete.
