I have a question for everyone but didn't know where to post it. I currently have a 35-40 gallon hex tank. I just bought a 90 gallon tank and am going to be setting that up soon. I was hoping to find out if everything will be ok transferring it to a bigger tank. Is there something I should do to insure everything makes it to the bigger tank without a problems. Thanks

Hi Chato2701 - is the 90 going to be in a different place to the where the hex is now
if so that makes it really easy

if the tank is going into same place, makes it a bit harder but still manageable

let us know which it is and advice can be tailored to suite the actual circumstances

I agree, the advice will be different if the new tank is going in the same spot as the old.

But I might also suggest that you wait a couple of weeks and perform some water changes and save the water in a tote until you set up the new tank. You will be doubling the tanks volume and it could (probably will) cycle. I would save up at least 20 gallons of “old water” preferably more.

It will most likely be in the same place, I don't think there is anywhere else to put it!

OK, then you will need some totes (rubber maid type).

I would pull a rock, and some water into a tote and add an air stone, heater and maybe even a power head – then my live stock. Keep it dark as to limit the stress.

Use more totes to empty the rest of the tank make sure your water stays warm, use a heater – then set up the new tank.

I would still urge you to save water from water changes for a couple of weeks. Doubling your water volume is not going to go over to well for your live stock. Take some pictures as you go and share.
