Well I finally decided to bite the bullet and start switching over to sand, I purchased my first bag of sugar sized argonite sand.

Started last night by moving all the corals and rocks to one side of the tank, scooped the CC out of the tank with a large plastic cup which actually works pretty good. Then after I had the whole side scooped out I just used the same cup to pour the sand back in. The only thing I did was I left a small strip of the tank bottom bare between the sand and CC so I won't get it mixed up.

Only downside is that it looks like a volcano spewed ash all inside my tank from the CC dust being stirred up. But so far the end result is amazing. I will take some pictures tonight and post them.

I would recommend waiting at least a week before changing out the rest, you are still chancing a small cycle, stirring up all that detritus.

Thanks for the heads up I was planning on waiting a month between the swaps just to be sure I didn't throw everything out of whack. lol it's probably going to take me that long just to get all the silt cleaned out of everything.

I did this several months back and trust me, even though your tank looks like hell now, it will be worth it.

Actually it's not the worst thing in the world, the only tough part is getting the fine dust from the CC off of all the parts of the tank.
