Ill give you a little lowdown on how ive been lighting my tanks for the past year or so. My 29 gal biocube has the stock lighting on it and once had a 150watt MH on top of it until an accident left my with no more MH:-[ The 29 houses more LPS with zoas and mushrooms and ive had a 150 watt MH on top of my 14 gal biocube, that as of now just has zoas, softies, ricordeas and one favia. I think that MH lighting is pretty intense for my tanks without any sps.
So ive been thinking of doing some lighting changes to my cubes. And ive really been itching to try this LED thing. But I really like the dawn, daylight and moonlights of the stock biocube hoods. I know everyone knocks them but when i only had MH over my tanks with no settting, just on and off, i forgot how cool the dush/dawn and moonlights were. After putting my stock hood back on my 29 gal biocube i also noticed some changes that made me smile:).
    1. Less water evaporation
    2. less temp change from MH lighting
    3. Less room for a fish to try carpet surfing.
These are all pretty decent features with the stock hoods. But there are some cons also:(
    1. Pricey bulb replacements every 6months
    2. Noisy fans
    3. Lots of cords

So ive been thinking off either buying new light fixtures, preferably LED , to either totally light the cubes or to supplement the stock, yet versatile lights i already have? I have been trying to decide the best product to light my tanks.
    1. PAR38 spotlights that are pretty cool and nice cause they plug into a regular light socket. But there is only on and off. Cheap though:-/
    2. The LED Stips that are nice because you can stick them anywhere in your existing hood. Pretty cheap.:-/
    3. Brand new LED fixture of some kind. Not much more expensive than doing a retro fit in the stock hoods and replacing the bulbs every 6 months.:-/

So i am contemplating these options as i need to buy more sub PAR bulbs..................................................................

*also starting a separate tank that will (hopefully be mostly sps). This tank is currently running under t5s but might switch it to MHs?
