Symbiosis

I know that there is no "foolproof" way, but I was hoping that someone may have some tips for getting a clown and anenome to come together. Aside from the obvious like the right type of anenome to host the right type of clown, is there anything else to encourage them?

 

Hi well I would get the clown first and have him run the tank.you know the boss of the tank then put a anemone in the tank.he should got right to it..hope that helps

 

Anemones need more time to adjust and are more sensitive to water quality.  I would add the anemone first.  You will find threads here , and elsewhere, where a clown dove right into a new anemone , irritating it to death.

As far as I know, clowns will or won't be hosted. You cannot coax them.  From what I have read, wild caught are more likely to host than tank raised, but I don't know if I truly believe that.

 

I don't think a clown would hurt the anemone if you get a big anemone but yes if you get a small anemone it might irritate it to death.

 

True...mostly it is the small bubble anemones that the info applies to.

I have a 58 gallon and I don't think I would want a large invert running around it ;D

What anemones are you considering?

 

Either a rose bubble tip or a carpet. I like those the best, but truethfully. I just want something to host. My girlfriend and sister pester me constantly about it.

I have seen some really truly HUGE carpets! I think they are beautiful , however, they are all wild caught and (supposedly) are not long lived in our aquariums. In the wild, they may live a hundred years.

The bubble tips are more suited to aquarium life, require less light, and if you try, you can get them tank raised - thereby erasing the ethical issues of wild caught animals. Flip side is, they are usually small when you get them.

The bubble tips are better then carpets like bl said. you can keep carpets but they are harder to keep but can be done.I take care of a tank that has a blue carpet and 4 clowns the capet has been in the tank for 2 years now.they don't like warm water 78 or under..bubbles are better to keep.I started with two and now I have 4 they keep spliting..

 

well this is odd...i have 2 clowns one goes into the anemone but the other can cuz the one in the anemone kicks him out...i hope they dont fight forever...also...if i move the smaler (not in the anemone) to my 55 gal and put a small one in with the other do u think they will pair up better?
