You only want to use 1 purple plus for each 4 bulbs. Should have used the ATI Aquablue Special for one of the Purple Plus.

That'll look awesome. I want to start playing with combos to supplement my OCReef fixture with my dual T5 fixture. Any suggestions.

What color does the fixture put out? I am guessing you have little or no red support from the fixture.

This seems about right. I was thinking of adding an ATI purple plus to see how it looks.

Good plan, experiment with placement, but I think you will like the Purple Plus behind the LED.

Well, I have to admit... I've been trolling various reef-related forums for about a year now, but after reading every page of this thread, I am all in.

GREAT idea for a thread... great information. I'll be on the phone with my LFS as soon as I'm done with this (my first post) to see if they have the "2 ATI Blue Plus. 1 ATI Aquablue Special and 1 ATI Purple Plus" combo in stock.

I do have one suggestion to help out some of us n00bs; can someone describe the color of each of the "types" of these bulbs? I read somewhere in this thread that super actinics weren't really that blue.

    Maybe a quick chart?

    My Assumptions
Aquablue Special = super crazy dark blue?
    Blue Plus = very blue?
Purple Plus = dark blue with a hint of red?

Thanks again for this thread... it's going to be nice not to be a troll anymore.

(this pics are kind of out of order b/c Picasa hates me)

Nice tank, you should start a build thread on here and list everything you have. Just a suggestion.

Well, the LFS (Marine Scene in Northern VA) had the ATI's in stock!

Here's the before picture (taken with my HTC Thunderbolt - nothing professional). I took this right before heading out to pick up the new bulbs:

Super Actinic, Actinic, Super Actinic, [some redish bulb I can't ID]

Here's the after picture, same camera, taken about 5 minutes ago:

ATI Blue Plus, ATI Blue Plus, ATI Aquablue Special, ATI Purple Plus
    [IMG]

EDIT: Adding new pic: ATI Blue Plus, ATI Aquablue Special, ATI Purple Plus, ATI Blue Plus
    [IMG]

I'm really digging the blue, but I'm probably going to tinker a bit tomorrow. I'm thinking about trying my older super actinic where the aquablue special is... I'll post some pics if I try it, and I'm open to any other suggestions you folks have!

Thanks again for giving me the info I needed (which gave me the confidence I needed to go replace 4 bulbs)! Unfortunately, as is always the case, I did not make it out of the store before my girlfriend found something we just *had* to have. I'm the proud new owner of a large red chilli coral.

Great selection, placement front to back Blue Plus, Aquablue Special, Purple Plus and Blue Plus. This is a good selection that will give about a 15000K look, if you want it a little darker switch the Purple and Aquablue.
