    Love this thread

I love this thread. Great idea Guitarguy!!

I Know Missionx is using halides but his tank has the nicest color I have seen on any picture here by far.

I know halides are a diffrent fish but anyone have any thoughts on how I could come up with somthing close to this color using 4 bulbs?

You're going to need to post the picture again, and also, if you want any sort of decent comparison, you'll need the bulb and ballast type.

These recommendations where noted on ATI website. with that being said, what light do you want if your looking to make the florescent in corals to pop and bring out the color in non florescent corals?

    Recommendations
Fundamentally, we differentiate the light colors for the marine aquaria between :

    1. BASIS lamps, which are used for the main lighting, and

    2. COMPLEMENTARY lamps, which permit a mixing of color variations .

Our Aqua-blue Special is recommended as a proven BASIS lamp primarily because of its high blue apportionment , which eliminates the need for extra blue tubes. Therefore, it has become one of the most reliable T5 tubes and is the main pillar of our ATI tube concept.

The COMPLEMENTARY tubes, such as our "Blue plus", ATI Actinic and Pro Color, should be applied in accordance with the type of the cultivated corals and animals in the aquarium, and should be more or less mixed together , but never to exceed the number of the Blue tubes installed.

So, with these complementary tubes, you have the possibility to vary the colors in your aquarium, and thereby , to react accordingly to the types of corals you have cultivated (i.e. flourescent or, placative colors) .

    Here are two examples :

    1. An aquarium with many flourescent corals ( e.g. crusts, SPS , LPS...) will profit optically via the mixing of extra tubes such as the Blue plus or the Actinic . The increased blue apportionment allows the flourescent pigments to be brought out more clearly and dramatically, and leads to an improved, overall optical impression.

    2. For an aquarium with many colorful Stone corals, with the majority having placative ( non-flourescent) pigments, we recommend that fewer blue tubes or ATI Actinic tubes be mixed-in and that it is better to install our Pro color tubes for color support. However, because of the strong opticlal effect of our Pro color model, we recommend a mixing proportion of 1 : 4 . Take care that the Pro color tubes are not used on the edges of the light-tube holders, but rather in the central part under the other tubes.

Not only the Stone corals ( Pink Hysterix, red Styloporo, Poccilopors....) but also many fish types will profit from the Pro color optical reflections.. For example, the wonderful Anthias will appear more color intensive then ever..

So... Expand your Color Spectrum and Viewing Enjoyment .......
..Intensify Your Aquarium Illumination from ATI's New Palette of
    Complementary Color Tubes...

with ATI ACTINIC AND PRO COLOR

    Cordially, Your ATI Team

If your're planning on running ATI bulbs, I would probably use an even mix of aquablues and blue+ bulbs. That should get you somewhere close. You can start there, then adjust to your taste. However, the bulbs will look different with each type of ballast used and also remember that is just a picture and there could be a big difference in the look of the tank in person as the WB may not be adjusted properly.

With a 4 bulb fixture, I'd run 2 ATI Blues, 1 KZ Fiji Purple, 1 UVL Superactinic

These ATI Pro bulbs are suppose to be for non florescent corals. will they work with aquablue and blue special?

That actually won't be that blue, it's 3 daylights and an Actinic.

Also, I wouldn't worry about a bulb for flourescent corals or not, it's just another spectrum.
