Does anyone know if T5 bulbs can be switched into say... a flourescent fixture? I know it wont have the same effects as a T5 fixture, but would it give it an increase over just regular bulbs?

Mine didn't. Apparently it needed a higher output than my inexpensive 2-bulb Coralife fixture could muster.

I wouldn't think it would fit. Aren't the pins on t5s closer together than a t12?

    agreed

T8s will fit in T10s and even T12 fixtures

but the ballast required to run T5s are VHO and wont even fire up T5s

Well thats the way it is in the domestic lighting market and Im sure the technology is the same for the items used in the aquarium market
