I was wondering if a T5 HO 24" 2x24 watt fixture would be sufficient output for a 10g frag tank...and do these fixtures adjust to fit a 10g even if they are a few inches longer? I will probably using this fixture on a 20g in the future.

More than sufficient for the tank. Depending on the brand the legs might adjust.

plenty of light...... what kind of fixture? Some brands have adjustable legs. I have a 24in fixture on a 10 gallon (20 in long) and it fits perfect thanks to adjustable legs. Using the Coralife HO T5s

For a 55g I would get a T5HO 4 bulb. 54w. If you want higher demanding corals you could maybe use 80w bulbs. I don't know of any 80w fixtures or if you can even use 80w in 54w fixture.
