I need to get a light for my 30 gallon long tank and was looking to save a little money and buy some used ones. I have always had power compact lighting and I like it, but I have heard T-5 lights are pretty nice too. Which put off better light for SPS corals?
I found one guy who has a 36" orbit power compact and a 36" odyssea T5 light for sale. I'm not sure which to go with. Price is good on both. The orbit is 2 years old and the Odyssea is only about 6 months old, he is upgrading to a metal halide so wont' need these. I know the orbit's are good lights, I have one now for my 10 gallon tank, but I have read a lot of mixed reviews on the odysseas. Anyone have any suggestions on Odyssea T5's - it's seems like most of the bad reviews were on their metal halids.
How about T5 ligth quality vs. power compacts??

    THanks!

I'm not sure on the quality of the odyssea fixture, I know what I've read but I've never used one.

I will tell you that T-5's are a better choice HANDS DOWN! The bulbs last longer, run cooler, cost less, and I could go on. Just make sure that the fixture is a High Output fixture and that you purchase High Output Bulbs (I recommend UVL Lighting).

T5s put out much more light than PCs. I recently upgraded from PCs myself.

I had an Odyssea PC fixture and it was fine. I don't know anything about their T5 fixture. I have read some posts about the Odyssea bulbs being the wrong length and they really aren't T5s but T6s. Thoose may have been a problem in older units only, can't remember. If you go with the Osyssea get a measurement on the bulb length so you can make sure you can buy good replacement bulbs that will actually fit.
