Man this thread is great, Kind of a pain to go back and forth on lighting choices, but still, you guys have been great, thanks! But yeah, Ive had the Ice Cap retro's from reefgeek before and they were awesome, Im kind of leaning that way now, seeing as it saves money, and gives me more flexibility.

Reefgeek is also alot cheaper. I just ordered a 4x39w tek retro kit with the bulbs of my choice and reef geek was $289 plus tax and shipping which came to $306. I set up the same thing with DIYreef and the price for the lights plus bulbs was $282, but there shipping was alot more expensive. Would of come to $340 total. Then every where else either didnt carry what I wanted, or was a lot higher in price.

Here is what I just changed my bulbs over to.

I could not be happier, the color is a nice crisp white with just a slight hint of blue. This was taken not 10 minutes into being fired up, so I'm expecting the colors to burn in change a bit more.

any one know of a easy and some what cheap way to measure par.?

i was looking at this lux meter. ive heard its useless.?
i thought there was a formula for converting lux to par.? or i am an idiot!
and even if thats possible, wouldn't with our lighting systems need something higher than 50000lux.

SM700 LUX Light Meter by Milwaukee Instruments - AquaCave

what purpose could something like this, or within a 150$ price range provide.? if any?

There is a way to somewhat convert LUX to uMol/m2/sec but I guess its not all that accurate... If you are going to spend $150 on a LUX meter then you might as well save another $100 and buy an APOGEE Quantum meter..... Then you can test all your buddies PAR levels....

I wouldn't fool around with the conversions...

    Happy lighting!

Iam planning on buying this fixture for a 120gal 24 inch tall tank wich is 60 inches wide, will the lamp be enough to keep polyps, LPS and some SPS?

    Thank you very much!

That would be fine to grow SPS pretty much anywhere in the tank....
If you add fans it will really be a nice setup...
Or wait until the Tek WITH fans come out....Whenever that will be!::)

Go with ATI lamps or the Giesemann....

    Happy lighting!
