T5's too much light for what I want in my 29g

    T-5s all the way. I have a 4x54w system over my 55 gallon reef and the sps are happy as well as the softies. Besides, if it is too powerful just put it higher above the tank.

    they have a few issues, heat and cost of operation being 2 of the big ones, another is some soft corals do really badly under them

    As just said by the others - heat issues, cost to run, water loss - and tbh my corals don't open up like they use to with the t5's so light saturation would be another reason, i also prefer the colour that t5 gives.

    lol water loss on my tank running tests with fresh water has been pretty bad. I wonder what the halide will do to it?
