the day light bulbs are what makes the corals grow.6500k will promote fast coral and algae growth but looks yellow.most go for the middle ground,actinic and 10,000k s the coral gets daylight,but not enough for fast algae growth,and the actinics are'nt even necessary for your tank but give your corals nice color and which actinics you use don't matter except for what you like.going over 12,000k will slow your corals growth but gives you neet blue lights to look at.this is just my opinion of light spectrums.

 

Thanks for the help! How long should I keep the actinincs on and then the whites?

 

Here are my settings:

8:30AM-12:00PM- 460 nm Blue Actinic(4 bulbs 216watts)

12:00PM-5:00PM -460 nmBlue Actinic and 10000k daylight( 8 bulbs 432 watts)

5:00PM-7:30PM-460nm Blue Actinic (4 bulbs 216watts)

7:30PM-8:30AM-Moonlight

 

1 - 54W ATI True Actinic 03 T5HO
2 - 54W ATI Blue Plus T5HO
2 - 54W 12000K ATI Aquablue Special T5HO

And one of the day lights below:
54W 6500K GE Starcoat Daylight T5 HO 48inch
54W 3000K GE Daylight T5HO 48 inch

All of the blues go on at 8 am and off at 7pm. The day light comes on from 12 -5 in addition to the blues. and moon lights after they all shut down. Does that sound about right?

Which of the day lights would be better?

 

you know 3000K is reddish/orange right?

I wouldnt run 3000K's unless it was in a green house growing plants.
