Someone suggested that I should get these lights for my current 55G FOWLR tank which is built into the wall with little clearance. Tank is 48" long with a middle divider so it'd mean one 18" bulb on each side. Will this be enough to build a reef?

I would say no, nova extreme puts out some wonderful sets, they have some build for a canopy that has two fans build in, may help with the flow of heat in the wall unit you have. Their 48 in T5 HO system should give you plenty of light to keep just about anything, with the correct bulb combo that is. since it seems that MH would not be an option since it is in the wall, not sure about your set up tho.
just reread, that divider may mess things up alil, a pic or something would be nice to get a better idea of what may fit.
