Over the past year three things that have been growing in our 85 gallon tank. These either came from the original live rock or from snails or hermits we have added. We are contemplating a Tang to munch on the grass but have been hesitant due to the spawning of our Six Line Wrasse. We would hate to mess that up. Any ideas what the eggs are and what type of polyp these might be? Will a Tang enjoy this green grass/algae?

    Thanks,
    Harry

The first pic looks like Button Polyps, either they are hybrids or just look different b/c of your lighting. In some cases, corals will "morph" their colors due to the lighting spectrum that they are receiving. The second pic is anyone's guess, I sure couldnt tell you what they are. The third is obviously a type of macroalgae, which one? I dont know.

Thanks Luna, getting closer. Do you think a Tang would enjoy that macroalgea? I agree, the eggs could be anything. Sometimes there is movement in the bubble shield but I have never seen anything make its way out. We always have them and a lot of baby snails so I am assuming they are snails - but as you say anyone's guess. Hope someone else has them and can tell me.

Am not sure what your asking. Are you contemplating on buying a Tang just to eat the algae or you just want another fish?

Wow, that is a beauty. I will look it up. How large do you think it will grow? Is it aggressive?

Actually, both. The tank is a year old and only has a pair of YTB damsels and a spawning pair (second female) of Six Line which we have been trying to not hassle. We want to get a Tang and now with the algae it might be time.

My Y. Tang nibbles on all kinds of macroalgae to include Cheato, Broccolli and Seaweed stripes. Snails will also eat the algae.
