Haven't updated in awhile but have made some progress! Finished up the canopy, stand doors and stand. Just need to paint it black and then mount the doors to the stand. I went with 3 doors instead of 4 since I think it looks less busy. Other than that, pretty much stuck to the design. Next task:

Drill the tank . Bit nervous on that one......

I like the doors you have chosen to make. I am in the process of building my stand and I think I will do something similar.

Thanks guys for the comments! Soo, I did it :)! I was a bit nervous for this since I've never done it before but I finally drilled my tank. Three 1" bulkhead holes on the left side. Couple things:

    • I used a 45mm diamond drill bit and used a water hose for cooling.
    • I made a wood template for the overflow box so I knew where to drill and prevent the bit from walking.
    • I drilled from the inside out since I heard less burs so better gasket sealing surface. I found this was for the most part true, but still got some burs, but less on the sealing surface side compared to the other side.
    • I put duct tape on the other side to catch & hold the glass plug upon breakage and for a cleaner cut. I forgot to put it on my first cut and of course glass kinda shot out and it looked ugly. Plus, I would stop every once in a while to see my progress and when I reinserted the bit with it spinning (don't do this) it caught the edge and cracked part of the plug, luckily not the tank (see pic)! I'm an amateur o_O .
    • I got 2 holes from my 45mm drill bit from BRS, and the 2nd hole took a bit longer. I switched bits to one I got off eBay for the 3rd hole and found that one took much longer. I think both are cheapo's but the BRS one seemed to be better.
    • I siliconed the overflow box in place using the mask tape method for a clean and hopefully leak free seal.
    That's it for now!

Your holes look great to me. And I like the wood template idea. Nice work. That has to feel nice now!

Thanks guys! So I got my 3D background. I just need to trim it a bit to fit in the tank. I'll post a pic when I get it in the tank.
