OK Im finally doing it. Got my first coral frag coming next week. Its a 10 polyp mars zoanthid. Starting with a nice easy coral. My question is placement. I have a 55gal with a 4x54 t5ho fixture. So as for lighting where should I place the frag?? Bottom, middle?? And for gluing the frag I know you use the super glue gel, but do you need to let it dry for any time, or just glue and place in tank? This coral stuff is all new to me.

first off congrats p. go for it. zoas you can place pretty much anywhere as far as i know. think its more of a case where you want it. and the gel, put it on the frag , place the frag where you want it andhold for 30 secs or so.

I would start by placing it towards the bottom of the tank. I personally have no experience with the super glue so I can't help you there. Congrats on your first coral.

Anywhere with those lights. You can use super glue gel or get some two part epoxy and attach them with that.

Congrats on finally taking the plunge.

You can basically place it any where in the tank. As for the super glue. I put some down, put the frag on the glue let is dry for a few seconds then place in the tank. Once it hits the water, it will cure almost instantly. If you are attaching an actual polyp to a rock, don't leave the frag and the glue out for too long or it will burn the coral as it produces a little heat. If you are just attaching a small frag rock to another rock, then I would just use the epoxy.

Great I misspelled the title. :( Anyways thanks for the input. I'm really looking forward starting my coral collection. Swore I would always stay fish only, well that didn't last for long. :)

Ok, the seller said they are unmounted, so I assume its just the frag, no plug.

Super glue cures almost instantly with water. I found this out the hard way. While super gluing a cut closed on my finger the glue came out WAAAAYYYY too fast. I thought, "oh s!@#, I better wash this off quickly!" Bad move, I had glue all over my fingers for a week or so!
The point being that as soon as you feel that you've got that frag attached where you want it you can go ahead and drop it into the tank. In fact, if you have to glue it to a rock that you can't take out of the tank, you can squeeze out a glob of that gel super glue onto your frag. Submerge it, then push it and give it a little twist where you want it to stick. This should break the skin that developed from submerging it, squishing the glue out onto the rock and curing it simultaneously. It's a pretty nifty trick.

Ok got my frags today. Floated them till temp matched, and put them in. They are obviously closed and I know it can take some time for them to open. But my question is how do I know if their alright? I have to take pics and send to the shipper within 8hrs if I have a problem for the arrive alive guarantee. Just don't know what I should be looking for?
