Unfortunately the cost of adding a closed loop just doesn't seem to make sense with Vortecs and Tunze Streams on the market. The costs is similar when you factor in plumbing, bulkheads and valves and in some cases the closed loop can exceed the costs depending on the quality of the plumbing. The move more water for a fraction of the cost. Also long term maintenance is much less and much easier.

None, but would it give more directional flow? The 100 gallon system I have has a closed loop system plumbed into it already and I am thinking about putting this back online to compliment my mp40

All the extra maintenance issues and inefficient pumps for cl make wavemakers a much better choice. A surge system is a better idea than cl.

    a surge system?

The reason why im asking is because I already have both vortechs so additional water movement from the bottom or back or the tank to the front where there isnt ant power heads?

    Hello,

Close loop and MP flows are two different kinds of flow so to say one is better.....?
I first learned about the different kinds of flow's then decided how i want to set up my system. A great thing about our hobby when we think we know whats best there is a 1000 tanks showing us different:)
My new build has 12 controlled 1" inlets with 6 overflows at different depths being powered by 3 Snapper/Dart Gold pumps. Would i say it's better than a system with 2 MP60s NO, do i think it's better Hell Yeah:)

    Good Luck!
