That's why you just do like I did, and buy another tank!

here is my advice- take them both out- yes- both, place them both in a holding tank using you tanks water (great time for a water change).

move some of your live rock around- make homes for them both.

    wait two days.

reintroduce them both at the same time

they will now be equals- and will be fine in a few days

haha, but think of how great it will be once finished ;) Seriously though, Alpha's advice is good. Rearranging things could help, but there is still no guarantee. Is a lot of work though... I guess you could also try to set up a divider for a while. Keep one on each side. Not sure if that would be as effective, but might work.

I would either choose which tang is your favorite, and take the other back for credit or remove both fish into a 5 gallon bucket, rearrange the rockwork, and reintroduce the fish into the tank at the same time. Doing this with lights out is a given. If that doesn't work go with plan A.

Not as hard as some think it is going to be. I have 3 tangs in my 70 and they are all perfect little angels! I was very tempted to take one or two back to the fish store cause they would fight and chase each other around the tank but i never did. It took about 1 to 2 months for them to finally start settling down and now they don't even care one bit! They act like they aren't even there! It is called patients! Let them be and have "PLENTY" of hiding spots for them to make their territory. BTW: I feed them non-stop. Haha. Let's just say they haven't gone hungry in a long time! ;)

Thanks for all the great replies all. Yeah I would really love to redo some rock in my tank, but its so loaded with coral, its kind of out of the question. I think I will pull the orange stripe bristletooth, in the fuge for a while and reintroduce in about a week. I think I actually will put him in my fish trap and put him in the tank and see if any aggression is viewed and if so, someones going back to the fish store.

Every tank is different. The general rule is that this would be very hard. You were lucky. Sometimes patience = death. Glad yours all get along well.

OP, definitely give it a shot! Hope it works out for you!!

OK so a quick update, I trapped the Orange Stripe Bristletooth Tang and it is now in timeout in the fuge and the Elibi Mimic Tang is now in the Main Tank. Going to see how this goes for a few days and then going to reintroduce the orange stripe in the fish tank in the trap, to see if any agression is viewed. If no aggression is viewed then hopefully both will live together and if not the Bristletooth will be off to the LFS.
