just want others input... one of the fish at the top of my stock list is a yellow tang.

i have a 75gal tank that was started dec 09. im currently housing a clownfish, yt damsel, and a red head fairy salon wrasse.

beside the tang the only other fish that will be in this setup are two other wrasses that have not been purchased. the YT damsel will be pulled out soon.

the tanks been stable the last two months and my hammerhead corals doing great (only coral beside two mushrooms that do well in just about anything). i have lots of coraline growth and my CuC has taken care of most of the algae. so i know ill have to provide the fish algae food regularly.

im just concerned that ive not 'waited' long enough before attempting to keep a tang.

thoughts? should i wait another few months? the last fish was added in march on the 16th.

params as tested this past sunday:

    PH 8.1
    SG: 1.025
    NO2: 0
    NO3: 0
PO4: 0.25 (had issues with my RO supply)
    Alk: 10dkh
    Calc: 500
    MG: 1350
    Temp: 79.8

i feed a variety of food for the diet of the CuC, inverts, and fish. i know that the rods food i use should be a suitable food source beside algae on a clip right?

If you do get one make sure to do a QT. It sounds like you are ready.

you might want to add the tang last, just based on the fact they can be mean to newbies. Also, how is the growth on your live rock? That is the most important factor, since the tang needs well established rock to graze on.

the type of tang makes a difference. some tangs like yellows are very hardy, that was actually my first fish ever after cycling.

thanks all. now i have to go LFS hunting to find the 'right' one.

also, i do have a 10gal tank that has saltwater at 1.025 and also 80 degree temp with a HOB filter that has carbon/filter floss. i use this for a QT. id QT this fish for a week but ill have to get a REAL small one. as my QT tank is only 10gal.

Sounds good to go on the Yellow Tang to me

I had a Yellow Tang before adding my Radient Wrasse and the Tang never even achnowledged its existance to be honest.

the different body shape and feeding requirements means the tang wont percieve the wrasse as either a threat or competition and should generally ignore it after possibly a quick flash to show it who the Guv'nor is!
