The yellow tang is a hardy fish and a regular feeding of veggies will keep his color and keep him healthy. I wouldn't add a smaller angel, butterfly or tang as these are fish that he will not accept in the tank. It's about similarity and the sharing of the same foods that gets them raged up. I doubt he would bother the wrasse's your thinking of getting.

he also ate some brine shrimp today as well. seems he's eating well.

I think every YT that I have seen purchased or bagged up has been whitish. It's merely from stress and goes away.
You'll notice a lot of fish do the same thing.

real hardy fish could have been added after cycle. It was good you asked and made sure before just tossing it in the tank and then asking. as long as you dont want anymore Zebrasoma tangs u should be alright.

I think you will be more than fine.

My boyfriend and i have been doing this for about a year and a half now and we vere beyond inexperienced at the begining... the only reason we got into this was because i wanted puffer fish after his piranahs all died (which funny story we do not have ANY puffers).

but back to your post, we had only had our tank (29 biocube) running for MAYBE 3 months when we got our indian ocean sailfin... this type of tang is less hearty than a yellow is. I would just suggest that if you do not have a UV sterilizer to consider getting one or to have ick medicine on hand and check closely on a regular basis for it.

Our tang has gotten ick several times but has not had ANYTHING wrong with him since we installed the UV... honestly I think tangs almost NEED a UV to minimize health problems with them... but if everything else in your tank is looking good you should have no problems whatsoever introducing a yellow.

Tangs have quickly become an obsession of ours and we are currently putting together a 120gallon tank... and honestly our biggest problem is decided how many tangs can we actually have and which ones we really want.
they are get fish with amazing personalities. we hand feed our sailfin and he will lovingly rub up against our hands (or bite us for not feeding him if we are in the tank moving things around)

i hope yours works out as well as ours has :)

yeah, now that you mention it i guess it does happen with the other fish ive purchased. though not as noticeable.

i dont plan on stocking any additional tangs. with the health problems i read about id rather spend that money on some neat wrasses and stick to the 'cheap' YT :)

thank you for the info. i have some melafix, but i dont have any more ich treatment on hand. the fish is back to his full yellow color and already ate the whole 2"x2" clip of algae i had in there for him.

im going to acclimate him to my main DT today. ill post pics when im done.

and the reason i waited so diligently and didnt know if i was ready for one was due to the issues i had with my coral beauty fiasco a few months ago.

    Potential wrasse choices:
    -Rhomboid Wrasse
    -Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis
    -
    Blueside Wrasse
    -Mystery Wrasse
    -Exquisite Wrasse
    -McCoskers Wrasse

bje, have you thought about any halichoeres wrasses?

IME, those are one kind of wrasse you absolutely want in a reef tank , especially one with clams.

These will eat flatworms and keep those pests from taking over, and they also eat the pyramellid snails, a clam killing snail.

bje, my favorite halichoeres is the radiant wrasse. It's simply a beautiful fish if you can get one. They used to be very hard to get as they were not being collected due to civil strife off of Africa, but now are being collected more it seems. I have one that is about 5".

yeah, i might go with a full wrasse tank someday. there are TOO many of them that are gorgeous, have awesome personalities, and above all easy to care for.

my list of wrasses just increased by two. i think i might need to remove a few from the list as i think 8 wrasses at a potential 5" each is a bit much :)
