I just got a hippo tang and a flame angel yesterday. I put them in separate quarantine tanks. The angel looks good, but the hippo tang is just hiding under a rock. Is this normal?

    Quite normal...

Very timid animal, likes to feel secure by hiding in rock-work.

Here's something which may ease your worries:

    Blue Hippo Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus)

Just keep an eye on him and make sure he is eating.

    Good luck.

The hippo tang will be a beautiful but very stressful addition to your tank. They hide often, will lay weird sideways, etc. I loved mine and even though he acted skitish, he was one of the heartiest fish I've had.

Be prepared to see some strange behavior from your hippo. They are some of the most "nervous" fish I have kept. The most important thing is that its eating, if it is then there won't be any need to worry about all the scrapes, bumps or even one or two ick spots you may see on it occasinally.
