Ah the waring yellow tang , they tend to be pretty agressive when they are the first in
I have "defused" that problem by "rearanging some rock inside"
and when i was new at it lol , i bought a sohol tang that little war pig had to be removed , thier like a clown tang ( mean Mofo's ) best kept to them selves and a powder blue ? oh lord they seem to get ick if you look at them cross eyed it doesint need any more stress such as fighting with another as soon asthe poor thing go's "plop" in the water .

i would have also tried to put another fish in at the same time should the tank size allow it and bio load permit' that would have totaly distracted that yellow tang

Survival of the fittest, happens all the time in the wild. They will settle down once they set their grounds.

the little guy didn't make it RIP BPT :(:( i guess the white barb did more damage than thought what is that barb??? i'm going to wait awhile before i attempt another, would would everyone suggest on time frame, also i will try and move some rock around, i do want to also get a naso tang i guess i could try to add both the new bpt and naso at same time. but i really didn't want to yet, wanted to see how everyone was for space then if it seemed ok then add the naso but i like the idea of changing rock around, i added rock afew weeks ago to fill in the gap in the middle of the tank and the yellow tang wouldn't cross the middle of the tank for a few days.

If it was me I would get rid of the yellow tang, they are some very territorial fish or at least have added him last. I have a divider I made out of acrylic that I can add to the tank to divide things up for such a event. I just had a Powder Blue pick a Powder Brown to death. If it happens again the Powder Blue will be taken out of the tank and put in the frag tank.
Sorry for your loss. The Surgeonfish have a venomous fin that they use in defense.

on the yellow tang, trying to see what i can find out about these venomous fin spines, are they always out or are they tucked in there body most the time and when threatened they slide them out?? if so mine seem to have his out all the time, i notice them when he turns the barb like things near the end of the tail.

Well viper the powder blue has that little spiny barb on its base of the tail to as well just like the yellow tang '
hence "they are called surgeon fish " they have that nasty little "sharp" blade on both sides and will use it to settle disputes / pecking order now as to what toxins it may carry' (if any) i don't beleave they do it's just a sharp little blade on each side ALL tangs / (surgeons) have them.
every last one of them . some are just more pronounced and able to be seen better on some of them size/color around the base of that tail .
you should go to the LFS and look at a naso tang' "adult sized" thier very noticeible ,

NO netting' its hamful to them and they can get hung in the net with that boney little blade on their tails

but if netting id the only option ( ya gotta get it done some how right ? )

AND absoulutely DO NOT attempt to catch it or hold it in your hand , you'll most likely be a victim' your self .

Now ive never looked at a surgeon fish by disecting it , ive only looked at a dead one closely with a magnafieing glass. those little "barb/blades " are mean looking , and i can only assume that it's bone' protruding thrue the skin

I would get rid of the yellow tang. They are super aggressive. The most aggressive tang I have ever had was a yellow tang. When adding tangs, its best to add them all at once. They should also be the last fish added to a tank because they will fight ANYTHING you put in there.

    Sorry for your loss...
